Regular Adjustments

There are 640 muscles in your body, 400 of which are located in your back alone. Muscles attach to bones via tendons. Bones that form joints are wrapped in ligaments. And all this is coordinated by your brain through your nervous system. Approximately 70% of your nervous system is used to give feedback to your brain on your body's functional ability.

If dentists look for cavities and policemen look for perpetrators... Chiropractors are trained to look for "Subluxation Complexes" of the joints – joints that are not moving properly relative to surrounding joints and have a decreased functional ability. These types of joint restrictions and resulting tissue changes that can be found by palpation, X-ray examination, and surface EMG testing (localized temperature changes).

Initially, restrictions of the vertebral joints, hips, knees, shoulders, wrists, and ankles can result from acute trauma, chronic over-use, postural stresses, emotional stress, and general inactivity. Over time, the body will compensate movement patterns to other areas of the body that are working more efficiently.

There are typically three phases to joint failure: First, a person starts to feel uncomfortable when a joint is irritated. Continued irritation leads to aggravation. Continued aggravation then ultimately leads to joint inflammation, at which point the pain can no longer be ignored and a person will seek treatment. Chronically inflamed joints can and will make permanent irreversible changes in the form of disk space thinning, instability, and boney changes – osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease.

Regular routine adjustments help to restore and maintain normal movement patterns and increase the body's functional abilities. "The brain's stimulation and nutrition comes from movement, specifically spinal movement". (Dr. Roger Sperry) Regular spinal adjustments help break the cascade of events leading to chronic inflammatory joint changes. Feel better and more engaged with yourself and your surroundings, naturally.
